How will surf icon Andy Irons be remembered? Hopefully as someone whose death opened eyes to the dangers of mental illness and substance abuse

I covered many surf contests when the great, and I emphasize great surfer Andy Irons was ripping it on the pro tour. He owned Huntington some years. So reviewing his life, and the powerful film that tries to make sense of his death, was important to mne. It recently aired on California Life. The opioid epidemic crosses the socio-economic spectrum.

His wife, and the surf community, are working to change the future his son grows up in through the Andy Irons Foundation.

I hope you’ll check out my story below  and the film Kissed by God,  which you can get on iTunes, etc., perhaps gaining a different perspective on this man and his legacy.

And from the archives, here’s a story from 2006 that aired on Action Figures about his win in HB.
