The visiting UCLA Bruins used a size advantage and aggressive defensive approach to hold off a late Sooners charge at home for an 86-80 win in Norman. The Sooners had claimed victories in their previous 14 home openers.
UCLA (2-0) opened up an eighteen point lead midway through the second half before OU (1-1) narrowed the game to a single point in the final minute before UCLA held on for the win. The Sooners made just 19 of 31 free throws.
