WCWS# – Oklahoma City – The Oklahoma Sooners rallied from an early 2-run deficit to down the defending NCAA champion Arizona State Sun Devils 5-3 in the semi-finals of the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City. Playing in front of another pro-Sooners sellout at Hall of Fame Stadium, the 4th ranked local favorites from nearby Norman fell behind in the first inning before rallying against ASU’s Dallas Escobedo (6 ip, 9 h, 5 r, 4 er, 1 bb, 8 k) for a four run third inning that propelled them into the championship round for the second time in school history.
On a sweltering afternoon with temperatures in the 90s, NCAA Player of the Year Keilani Ricketts was pushed to the max by the pesky Sun Devils lineup, needing 156 pitches to earn her third straight win in the tourney and her team’s 11th consecutive overall. It was the 25th time this season that the junior Ricketts (36-7) whiffed ten or more hitters in a game. She finished with a hard fought line score of 7ip, 8 h, 3 r, 3 er, 4 bb and 13 k’s.
Oklahoma will play either Cal or Alabama in the best of three championship series beginning Monday night in Oklahoma City.
