From Press Release
Philippe Cornet scored two goals and Ryan Keller had a goal and two assists as the Barons swept a three-game road trip by beating the Lake Erie Monsters 3-1 on Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
It marked Oklahoma City’s fourth straight win overall dating to the last homestand. After wins the previous two nights at Rochester, the Barons are tops in the AHL in wins with a 27-11-2-3 record and in standing points with 59. Saturday’s game was the Barons’ third straight with a two-goal game from a player, as Dylan Yeo last night and Mark Arcobello on Thursday joined Cornet with a pair of goals in a game this week.
After a scoreless first period, Cornet opened the scoring at 11:10 of the second with his 19th of the year as he received a pass down low from Ryan Keller and tucked the puck past Trevor Cann.
Lake Erie tied the score 1-1 a re-direction by Brad Malone on the power play at 14:42 of the second. The goal snapped a stretch of five and a half games where Oklahoma City had been perfect on the penalty kill.
The eventual game-winner from Cornet came at 8:24 of the third on a major power play. Cornet put home his 20th of the season when he batted the puck out of the air past Cann on the short side.
Keller added an empty-net goal with 7.2 seconds left. Oklahoma City out-shot Lake Erie 26-22, including 14-5 in the third, in winning both games in the season series at Cleveland. The Monsters visit Oklahoma City March 9-10.
David LeNeveu improved to 10-5-2 and lowered his goals against average to 2.06, while Cann fell to 9-16-0.
The Barons return home to face Houston on Friday and Texas on Saturday at the Cox Center. Faceoff for both games is 7 pm CST.
