New configuration at Cox Center, a team one step from the NHL… I’d love to see OKC really embrace the Barons.
Here’s this years press release regarding the season schedule.
Oklahoma City – The Oklahoma City Barons in conjunction with the American Hockey League released its 2011-12 schedule earlier today. The Barons will open the 76-game season on the road October 9 against the Texas Stars. Oklahoma City’s home opener is October 15 at the Cox Convention Center against the Texas Stars at 7 p.m. The Barons will round out its opening weekend with a 3 p.m. contest October 16 against the Houston Aeros.
This season, the Barons schedule features games against all 14 Western Conference opponents. Oklahoma City will play 34 of its 76 games against its divisional opponents, the Houston Aeros, San Antonio Rampage, Texas Stars and Abbotsford Heat. Other opponents include the Chicago Wolves, Peoria Rivermen, Rockford IceHogs, Grand Rapids Griffins, Lake Erie Monsters, Milwaukee Admirals, Toronto Marlies and Hamilton Bulldogs. The Barons will face two new opponents this season in the Rochester Americans and Charlotte Checkers. Thirty of the Barons 38 home games will be played on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Faceoff for games played Monday – Saturday will be 7 p.m. Sunday games will begin at 4 p.m. The Barons will play one School Day Game November 8 at 10:30 a.m. against the Toronto Marlies.
The Barons road game February 9 against the Abbotsford Heat, AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, will be played at the ScotiaBank Saddledome in Calgary. That marks the second straight season the Barons, the top affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers will play Abbotsford in Calgary.
“We believe this will be a very exciting year for our team and our fans with the addition of the Charlotte Checkers and one of the most historic teams in professional hockey in the Rochester Americans,” said Barons general manager Bill Scott. “Also, the elimination of sequences where teams play four games in five nights should give our players more energy every night and help to prevent injuries. Our staff and players are looking forward to building on our success last year as we set the bar higher both on the ice and in the community.
