Oklahoma City, Okla. – The Oklahoma City RedHawks scored all four runs in the final three innings, capped off by a ninth inning, walk-off double from Brian Dopirak in a 4-3 win over the Nashville Sounds (9-16) before 4,450 Thursday night at RedHawks Field at Bricktown.
Reliever Fernando Rodriguez (1-2) picked up the winning decision, dealing one and one-thirds innings of perfect relief. Justin James (0-2) took the loss, giving up the game-ending run in the ninth inning.
Nashville opened the scoring in the third inning. Luis Figueroa led off with a walk, moved to second on a bunt by Sam Narron, advanced to third on an error by shortstop Tommy Manzella and scored on a Caleb Gindl double play ground ball for a 1-0 score.
The Sounds extended the lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning. Jeremy Reed led off with a double before Brendan Katin blasted a home run into the left-centerfield bullpen. Katin is now 4-for-23 against Oklahoma City in 2011, with all four hits coming as home runs.
The RedHawks started to rally in the seventh inning against the Nashville bullpen. Reliever Jim Henderson allowed a leadoff home run from Brandon Barnes, cutting the Sounds lead to 3-1.
Oklahoma City tied the game in the eighth inning. Joe Inglett walked, moved to second on a one-out single from Robinson Cancel, stole third and scored on a Drew Locke single for a 3-2 score. Robinson Cancel moved to third later in the inning on a Collin Delome fly out. During the Barnes at-bat, Locke was caught in a rundown trying to steal second, sending Cancel toward home from third base. Cancel ended up beating out a rundown of his own and scored the game-tying run for a 3-3 game.
In the ninth inning, Anderson Hernandez led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a Brian Dopirak double over the left fielder’s head ending the game at 4-3.
